GENERAL INFORMATION (What to wear, Tuition Fees, Where to get shoes, All that good stuff!) *Attendance is imperative to a student's progress. If classes are missed repeatedly it affects the whole class, not just the student who is not there. Please be considerate of the teachers and your child's fellow classmates, by trying to get your child to classes on a regular basis. Repetitive Inattendance slows everyone down. Habitual Tardiness also affects progress!!! If a student is not there for something which is being taught, that is something they are not learning that the other students ARE. Inattendance and Tardiness does not help elevate a students confidence level and is not beneficial to the class as a whole. SHANNON'S SCHOOL OF DANCE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE CLASS LEVEL FOR ANY STUDENT WHO IS UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE AT THE LEVEL OF THE CLASS THEY ARE REGISTERED IN. SHANNON'S SCHOOL OF DANCE ALSO RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DISMISS ANY STUDENT WHOSE BEHAVIOR OR INATTENDANCE IS FOUND TO BE A DETRIMENT TO THE CLASS. COSTS INVOLVED

If more instructors are hired, these fees may be subject to change. A Confirmation of account information will be sent to you so that you may evaluate and inform us of any discrepancies that need to be corrected. No statements will be mailed out unless your account gets past due. Each parent will receive a payment coupon book in late September. Your payment coupon book must be used for tuition installments, costume fees, etc. from October thru June to assist you in your account maintenance. If you use your payment coupon booklet monthly, your name will be entered into a monthly drawing to win discounts and/or prizes! It pays to use your payment book properly! If you don't use your payment book and the coupons, you won't know valuable information and you won't get any surprise discounts etc!!! You snooze, YOU lose! FAMILY RATES To figure family rate, add up how many hours each child has- add those figures together and subtract $10 from the total cost to get tuition amount. There are other opportunities to save money on registration fees and tuition, just ask! Tuition paid by installments will be due the first week of every month, regardless of number of classes that meet in that month or student absence. Tuition is a yearly fee, broken down into 10 installments for your convenience. Tuition fee is not decreased due to missed lessons.( It is the same fee per month regardless of the number of classes that meet per month.) This yearly fee can be paid up front in FULL for the year, by quarterly installments, or monthly, September thru June. Installments are still due and payable unless the studio is notified of withdrawal PRIOR to the 10th of the Month. Tuition installment will still be due for that month if withdrawal notification is made after the 9th of said month. Payments in full for the year should NOT be made and are not recommended, unless the parent or guardian is confident that the student will continue for the whole duration of the year. Refunds are not given for full year payments after October 9, 2011 and will be subjected to a $80 administrative fee. This fee will be deducted from the refund. Upon deciding against proceeding with classes, it could take several months to receive the remaining refund minus the $80 administrative fee. If a student withdraws after October 9th, and they have paid in full for the year, they will only receive that refund as a credit to their account and not as a cash refund. The credit will be void after one year from the date of the student's withdrawal. (Not transferable to students outside of immediate family) Recital Recital is normally the first weekend in June" tentatively" . There are rehearsals all that week, and Dress Rehearsal is that Friday night at 6PM. The recital is that Saturday night at 7 PM. More info to be posted soon! We may be using a new company to assist with costume ordering to make the process easier for the studio. So many times we end up losing money from various things involving costuming and we might be turning to this service to help keep us out of the Red. If we decide to use this company to assist us, there will be more fees involved per costume and a fundraising opportunity will be offered to assist with this so that we may offset this new cost. This might also make some of the info below in regards to due dates a bit different- This service will enable the Parents and Dancers to actually see the costumes they're ordering, make their payment on the secure website and not give it any more thought. Often times costumes come in and unless we take each out of the bag and check for all accessories, we always end up with a missing headpiece, or choker, fringe skirt etc- this costs us time, more money to get these left out items in time for the show- not to mention how stressful it is! Using this company will ensure that each costume comes in on time, has all accessories and is not missing a sleeve etc! These fees and due dates below may change if we choose to use this new costume ordering service. We will alert you as soon as possible after we research it further! Costumes : Costume Fees are non refundable. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO "SHANNON D. SMITH/SPECIAL ACCOUNT". Base Costume Fees for School Performance average $50 - $70 per costume/class depending on age. Ages 3-6= $50 (one costume) students ages 8 and up, prices vary. For each class a student takes they will need a costume- we no long will order 2 or 3 in one costumes since not everyone will be taking the same classes. If your child takes Jazz, and Tap- then their fees would be approximately $100 or a little above that, for costumes. All 3-6 year old COMBO classes only need ONE costume. If you do not wish to participate in the Spring Performance, you are obligated to inform us no later than December 9th, 2012. Failure to do so will obligate you to pay all required costume and recital production fees. First 1/2 of base costume fees are due November 17, 2011 (all costume payments must be separate checks from tuition) $25 for each 3-6 year old $50 minimum for each student 6 1/2 & up (if student is taking more than one class, multiply price by number of classes taking and divide in half for first payment) Balance of costume fees are due January 12, 2012. Costume payments made after the due dates will incur a $15 late fee Costumes are not purchased for students if their tuition and/ or costume fees are delinquent. WE DO NOT PURCHASE COSTUMES FOR STUDENTS ON CREDIT! We do NOT offer financing!! NO POSTDATED CHECKS ARE ACCEPTED FOR ANY REASON. ANY CHECKS THAT ARE POSTDATED WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU - NO CHECKS WILL BE HELD FOR ANY REASON.
Recital Production Fee: $25.00 per individual student $35.00 Family (2 or more children)
This non-refundable fee is due on February 10, 2012. It is needed to assist with production costs such as scenery, props, artwork, music, editing, hiring of staff, trophies, rental fees, tickets, shipping fees and other miscellaneous expenses.
RECITAL TIGHTS NEEDED: It is suggested that you buy 2 pairs for each style of dance. That way you have one pair for Dress Rehearsal and another new pair for recital. Start shopping for these in March because the whole world will be ordering them for their dance recital too! April and May are their busiest ordering times and things go on backorder due to the high volume of sales they do during recital and competition season.
All Students in the 3-6 year old combination classes MUST have CAPEZIO BALLET PINK tights. Convertible tights are okay. ( please no footless, no stirrup, and no shimmery shiny tights from walmart. please only non shiny tights-also known as MATTE- meaning no shine) All Students ages 6 1/2 and up that are NOT in a combination class, need CAPEZIO BALLET PINK tights- convertible is what we recommend due to the hole on the bottom of the foot that enables you to roll the tights up and wear flip flops home! :) Full Footed are great too. Please do not purchase shiny tights from Walmart- only MATTE - matte means it has no shimmer to it at all- it is a flat color with no shine to it. For jazz and Tap students ages 6 1/2 and up they will need CAPEZIO Suntan Matte tights- convertible or full footed. No stirrups, no footless, no pantyhose, no shimmer tights from walmart! *Students may also need to purchase a plain suntan/nude camisole leotard for the dance recital - (ages 8 and up) to wear underneath their tights and under costumes as an extra liner. They also make changing costumes a much more comfortable experience! A dance bra may also need to be purchased (plain suntan or nude) - dance bras are more breatheable and made specifically for dancing and look nicer under costumes etc.- regular bras from the department stores are not as comfortable and are more conspicuous under costumes. These also need to be purchased prior to May! Dance Wear Needed For Classes: Yes, we know... there is a LOT of information on this page!!! Please also look at the pictures at the end of this page! 3 Year olds combo class: Black Leotard, White ankle socks (no panties under leotard)- Pink full footed tights for colder months.-tights okay when weather gets cold- no panties under tights. 4-6 year olds combo class: Black leotard , pink full footed tights (no panties under tights or leotard)
*they now make convertible (also called transitional in some style numbers) foot tights for small children. this means there is an opening at the bottom of the foot. Your child can then roll their tights up after class and wear flip flops home! :) We love them!!- but only in BALLET PINK for 3-6 year olds!! (some size restrictions may apply, so they may not be available for all ages dependent upon Brand or Store) Capezio Daisy T205- pink leather ballet shoes or comparable shoe. Capezio T3800 Mary Jane in Black OR T625 Jr. Tyette.(if purchasing tyette, please remove ribbons and replace with black elastic sewn together in a loop so that shoe may slip on and off and not need to be tied) OR comparable shoe. WE PREFER BLACK PATENT LEATHER (The shiny black kind!) Capezio 725T Recital Tap shoe is a great new shoe..especially if little feet grow in April and you need to get a new pair right at recital time!!! (It's gonna happen, so prepare for it!)- Tap shoes cannot be bought too big because a flying tap shoe coming off of a student's foot and hitting another child or breaking a mirror..is not a good thing! | | | Skirts may be worn in class (short only) and a long sleeved leotard and/or dance sweater is recommended for the colder months due to drafts upstairs. We recommend that your child keeps a sweater that buttons in the front in her dance bag, during the cold months. Older students may be asked to put on their skirts AFTER barre work so that teachers may see their body alignment. |
Hair must be worn up in a bun, French braid, or ponytail that is properly secured – long ponytails must be secured into a bun, due to possible eye injuries from pony tail length that may occur during movement. Short hair must be secured away from the face with a headband or proper snap clips etc. SIDE BANGS MUST BE CLIPPED BACK.
If you start fixing your child's hair in a proper ballet bun NOW, it's not hard during performance time! :) Another Tip: If your child's hair is in a bun, it makes them LOOK, FEEL, and ACT like a dancer! :) Does the thought of putting your child's hair in a bun, or up in any way, shape or form, scare you to death? check out these links: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Ballet-Bun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ywgUDBpnX0 really take a good look at this clip! There are tons of ways to get hair up! Even shorter hair can be put up! http://www.oregonballetacademy.com/schedules/wear.htm http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+make+a+ballet+bun&aq=f Please observe the following Rules: *STUDENTS MUST USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE PUTTING ON DANCE CLOTHES, SO THAT CLASS TIME WILL NOT BE INTERRUPTED FOR POTTY BREAKS. PARENTS, STUDENTS AND SIBLINGS MARCHING ACROSS THE BALLET ROOM TO GO TO THE RESTROOM IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING FOR THE CLASS THAT IS IN PROGRESS AT THAT TIME. BE CURTEOUS AND TRY NOT TO PLAN ON THE WHOLE FAMILY USING THE RESTROOM AT THE DANCE STUDIO- JUST GO PRIOR TO LEAVING HOME, ETC...I KNOW IT ISN'T ALWAYS POSSIBLE, BUT WE NEED YOUR COOPERATION TO KEEP THE DISRUPTION OF CLASS DOWN TO A MINIMUM. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD TO CLASS AND SAY THAT THEY "SAID" THAT THEY DID NOT NEED TO GO. SIMPLY MAKE THEM GO PRIOR TO PUTTING ON THEIR DANCE CLOTHES TO ENSURE CLASS TIME IS NOT INTERRUPTED BY CLEANING UP ACCIDENTS OR HAVING TO WAIT FOR THE ENTIRE CLASS TO USE THE RESTROOM. THEY CAN GO AND WILL HAVE TO GO IF THEY DON'T GO PRIOR TO PUTTING ON DANCE CLOTHES! TUITION IS PAID FOR DANCE INSTRUCTION, NOT POTTY TIME OR CLEAN UP TIME. IT IS NOT THE TEACHER OR ASSISTANT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE TO IT THAT EACH CHILD'S BLADDER IS RELIEVED AT DANCE CLASS. WE REALIZE ACCIDENTS HAPPEN, AND WE HANDLE THEM AS DELICATELY AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THE CHILD IS NOT TRAUMATIZED. PLEASE TAKE THAT EXTRA STEP SO THAT YOUR CHILD DOESN'T SHED TEARS FROM EMBARASSMENT. :( *Proper Shoes MUST be worn for all classes! Tap shoes must be purchased for tap classes. *Hair Must be properly secured in a bun or french braid- Shorter hair styles must be pinned off the face and neck. bobbie pins, hair elastics and hair nets are essential to making a clean tight bun, Untidy, unsecured hair is a safety concern and prevents the teacher from viewing the students alignment and is also a distraction to the student in class. **** Zumbatomic, KidGroovz and JazzFunkFusion classes may wear hair down or partially pulled up. Pony tails are always good! These are the only classes that are allowed to wear hair the way they wish. *KidGroovz and JazzFunkFusion may wear t-shirts, camisoles, jazz pants, Lycra capris, cargo pants, athletic shorts ( PLEASE NO SHORTY SHORTS!) , sweatpants and hoodies etc. in cooler months. NO JEANS! Students should wear whatever makes them feel "cool" and is easy to move in. We recommend lightweight shoes with a flat surfaced non marking sole: Puma, Nike, Converse, or dance sneakers are acceptable. (don't forget your socks!)
Zumbatomic kids need to wear socks, athletic shoes ( flat surfaced non marking soles such as converse are always good) and comfortable, clothes they can move in ( not jeans) *No watches or jewelry can be worn in class. (only post earrings)
*No undergarments are to be worn under any leotards or tights. Tights ARE a dancers undergarments!
*All t-shirts , camisoles, pants etc, are to be removed prior to class unless it is jazz pants in Jazz, Tap , KidGroovz, or JazzFunkFusion are the only exception. *Elastic must be sewn on all ballet shoes. Shoes will be checked in class and a note will be sent home if elastic is not sewn on shoes by October 31st. http://www.ehow.com/video_5629903_attach-elastic-ballet-shoes.html *All shoes should have the students name and phone number clearly written on each shoe.
Students ages 6 1/2 and older (not in a combination class) Black leotard, pink full footed tights, or convertible tights (no underwear under tights or leotard)- suntan full footed tights may be worn for tap classes for students ages 6 1/2 & Up-Pink tights (convertible tights are recommended) must be worn for Ballet and jazz classes. (Teen classes are exception- they may wear colored leotards ) Suntan tights are okay for tap class. Suntan are okay if you only take jazz. Black Capri pants, biker shorts, or jazz pants may be worn in Jazz and tap classes for students ages 6 1/2 & up. Dance sweaters and/ or long sleeved leotards are recommended for the colder months due to drafts. Hair must be worn up in a bun, French braid, or ponytail that is properly secured – long ponytails must be secured into a bun, due to possible eye injuries from pony tail length that may occur during movement. Short hair must be secured away from the face with a headband or proper snap clips etc.
Tap shoes for students ages 6 1/2 & up must have Bloch SO302 in Suntan. Please see photo down below ...scroll down! Please do not buy a different brand of suntan tap shoes- we like the way the bloch tap plates sound better than capezio and the cheaper brands!) Students ages 6 1/2-11 (unless otherwise indicated due to being in a different class level) Bloch S0302L/S0302G in Suntan-(not the high heeled ones!) Students ages 12 & up Bloch S0389L in Suntan - (get a SNUG fit b/c they stretch out!!!!)Tap students... please check with teacher before buying shoes, especially if you are in a different level then your age group! THEY MUST BE SPLIT SOLE AND NOT THE CARDBOARD FULL SOLE.
